Should Billy Very Host the Academy awards Again?
If recently minted Oscar ceremony producer Brett Ratner is serious in the mentioned intent to create the show funny again, Billy Very comes with an emcee nomination: themself. Based on the La Times' Honours Tracker blog, Very introduced on Friday that he'd be prepared revisit the Oscars podium for that ninth time next winter. He has not located since 2004, but he states his brief surprise appearance only at that year's show, that was welcomed with a 35-second-lengthy ovation, has whetted his appetite to come back. Crystal's announcement poses a conundrum for Ratner and also the Academy. On one side, they are fully aware he is able to get the job done, however the telecast has attempted in vain for a long time to draw in a more youthful audience, and also the 63-year-old comic is most likely not the man to achieve that. However, anybody youthful enough, funny enough and famous enough for that gig will probably be too edgy to not bite the hands that feeds her or him. Who should land the task otherwise Very? Very expressed his readiness revisit the Kodak Theatre throughout an issue-and-answer session in a 20th anniversary screening of 'City Slickers' in Santa Monica. Regardless of the several weeks of effort involved with assembling the jokes and medleys for his Oscar hosting gigs (something he did eight occasions between 1990 and 2004), he stated he felt the timing was finally to get his tuxedo from mothballs. "It reached be an excessive amount of before long and also the sameness during my existence. This is exactly why I drawn back," he stated. "After which after i thought I may want to try it again, these were onto others. It certainly is fun. It is hard, but maybe a couple of more occasions? I'm not sure. They are fully aware where I'm.Inch He talked about just how much he loved showing up about the Oscar show again earlier this Feb, when producers introduced him onstage for any segment praising the only real individual who has located more Oscar shows than he's. "They'd known as and stated can you do that factor and recognition Bob Hope which would be a type of awesome factor to complete. I stated OK. Used to do it, the ones desired to see me, they was up, and that i could not talk for 1 minute [before applause died lower]. And, um, I acquired just a little scratchy. So we'll see what goes on. I can not promise anything." Billy Crystal's Segment in the 2011 Oscars With a audiences, Crystal's appearance would be a welcome rest from the job from the youthful first-time hosts, the overzealous Hathaway As Catwoman and also the zombiefied James Franco. Here, finally, would be a seasoned professional, a star who might get the Oscar crowd in the pocket without seeming to test way too hard, a artist who had been clearly pleased to be there. His presence, together with anticipation clip he introduced, reminded audiences of once the Academy awards was previously truly funny. With other audiences, however, there is something creaky and creepy concerning the segment, using the ghost from the eight-years-dead Hope coming back via hologram to seize the spotlight in the living entertainers, with Very tossing in the lot using the past rather than the near future. Each year once the Academy was heading out of their way to get youthful people interested, here were Gramps and Great-Grand daddy suggesting just how much better things was previously within the past. Billy Crystal's Opening Monologue in the 2004 Academy awards Very may bring the funny, but possibly not with no whiff of Metamucil. Same applies to such Very co-workers as Whoopi Goldberg and Steve Martin. On the other hand, the more youthful comics who've located Academy awards recently (Jon Stewart, Chris Rock) cracked jokes the Hollywood mandarins in the Kodak found insulting and welcomed with stony silence. So going youthful and edgy does not always work either. On and on youthful and never-funny (Hugh Jackman, Hathaway and Franco) is, well, not funny. Somewhere, there needs to be considered a happy medium. Someone like Craig Ferguson, who understands how to be funny and stylish without problem those who asked him, because he demonstrated in the Whitened House Correspondents Dinner a few years back. Or Neil Patrick Harris, whose witty hosting gigs have enlivened nearly almost every other honours show. But do either of these possess the stature within the movie world to suit you perfectly? For Ratner, Deadline quotes him as giving a non-committal reaction to Crystal's offer, that they stated he had not heard. "I am really centered on finishing my film 'Tower Heist' at this time,Inch the director stated. "I had been relayed through the Academy which i do not have to come to a decision until mid-September." Should Billy Very host the Academy awards again? Otherwise Very, then who? Follow Gary Susman on Twitter @garysusman.

Big Screen: Friday's TV Panel
Sherlock and Merlin sessions in fullSherlock. The Sherlock session kicked off with a couple of clips from season one. The first went all the way back to the beginning and possibly the smartist meet-cute in telly detective history. Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock explains to Martin Freeman'sWatson that he knows everything about him, from his army past in Afghanistan to his favourite colour of Skittle, just by looking at him, and would he care to flat-share? If only Gumtree was this much fun. Then, without much more ado, Sherlock creator/writer Mark Gatiss took to the stage to share some nuggets about season two, currently "a week and a bit" away wrapping down in Cardiff. As the former League of Gentlemen-er explained, things got a little Royston Vasey on the set this week: "We were stopped briefly by the riots which was very scary indeed. " It's a bold call to visit the set of a programme called 'Sherlock' to commit crime, you'd think. Here's hoping they were disarmed by a few well-placed Holmes bon mots and a well-timed cane to the looter-hooters. Interruptions aside, season two is coming together nicely says Gatiss. He's promising a visit to some of the greatest moments in the Holmes canon over the three 90-minute shows. They form what the creator shorthands 'The Woman, The Hound, The Fall' trilogy, although we know them better as 'A Scandal In Bohemia', 'The Hound Of The Baskervilles' and 'The Final Problem'. For the spoiler-weary, those are the Wikipedia pages to avoid between now and session two's airing. As Gatiss explained cryptically, "We get to the cliffhanger somehow..."So what's different about this season? "It's the second one," Gatiss deadpanned. "Also we've completely recasted. ""It's a rare chance to do the early days of their friendship, right from the beginning, so everything you know has not yet formed. Sherlock's attidue to women and to crime is still forming, so it's much more plastic. The only heresy [about the show] is that it's modern day. After that it's one of the most faithful versions there's ever been, because Stephen and I just love it. Sherlock Holmes had become all about the hansom cabs and the fog, rather than about the friendship of this unlikely couple. It's very much inspired by the Basil Rathbone's version. "So the big question: will there be a Moriarty presence? "Wait and see!" laughed Gatiss. So is that a yes? "It's a nnn-yes. "Gatiss explained that Sherlock was beavering away frantically solving cases, so the elves could continue to their journey across Middle-earth. "The Hobbit is working around us," he grinned, "and I never thought I'd say that. They shut the while film down so Martin (Freeman) could come back to us but we've got to finish sharpish so he can get back. My only regret is that Martin and Benedict are in it, but not the rest of the Sherlock cast. "Merlin. Next up: Arthurian England's own Derren Brown, Merlin. Fans of all things wizardy and fire-breathing would have been stirring their metaphorical cauldrons in delight at the sight of footage from the forthcoming fourth season (airing on weekend spots before Christmas, fact fans). Then Merlin creators Johnny Capps and Julian Jones, as well as Prince Arthur himself, Bradley James, took to the stage to answer questions devilish enough to have Beowulf howling at the moon. First things first: would the show be taking a leaf out of Harry Potter's book of spells and heading in a darker direction? Yay, and indeed, verily. "Season four looks at the mythology, so in that sense it gets darker,' explained Capps, "but there's still comic moments in there. " So giant wooden rabbits and tap-dancing Knights of the Round Table are out then? "Well, the stand-out comedy episodes we've had before won't be there. " Sure enough, the crunchingly visceral trailer for season four was a world of John-Boorman-Excalibur bleakness as well as all the swordsmanship, swashbuckling and hag-faced witches we've come to know and love in the series. "Everyone's very aware of the familiar King Arthur legend so that part of my research was already done," James joked. "Without being presumptious enough to think that this would run and run, I knew Arthur's journey was to go from this idiot at the beginning to the heroic figure he becomes at the end of the show. "So, wondered Big Screen's moderator, why 'Merlin' and not, say, 'Arthur'? "Merlin the magician was something that no-one had explored for a long time," Jones explained. "At the time [of creating Merlin] we were all obsessed with Smallville so we started to explore the idea of a 'young Merlin'. Then we thought, "Why not bring in Arthur? Why not bring in Guinevere?"The creators came back time and again to the show's "five-year plan", a rare luxury in TV writing that's enabled them to construct longer-reaching arcs and plot threads. "There's a very specific idea of how season five ends and how to move onto season six," says Capps. "We're looking to move deeper into the mythology. The great thing about it is that everybody has a Merlin - there's a very famous Croatian Merlin - and we've read everything!" Auntie Beeb likes to keep its scheduling info under its bonnet, but look out for Merlin season four on a Saturday evening slot sometime before Christmas.

AMC Orders 16-Episode Final Season of Breaking Bad
Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul AMC wants one final hit! The network has ordered a 16-episode final season of Breaking Bad. News comes amid speculation that the Emmy-winning drama about a chemistry teacher-turned-meth-manufacturer might move to another network. Sources tell TVGuide.com that AMC closed the deal Sunday. Is AMC about to lose Breaking Bad? Production on all episodes of the final order will commence in early 2012. No premiere date has been set. Breaking Bad executive producer Vince Gilligan has said that he doesn't see Breaking Bad going on more than five seasons, but at the outset of Season 4, he told TVGuide.com that he envisioned perhaps a longer-than-typical final season. "I still think we've got one more really good season in us at least, but I think it would be safest to end it after that.Is that a season of 13 episodes, or maybe a couple more than 13?Perhaps," he said. "I think we're definitely more than halfway through our story and maybe three-quarters of the way through [entirely]." Breaking Bad's Dean Norris: You can't keep Hank down AMC has been embroiled in a public battle with the creative forces behind high-profile series The Walking Dead and Breaking Bad in an attempt to cut programming costs. Last month, the network let go of Walking Dead showrunner Frank Darabont and in recent weeks had been pushing Gillian and Breaking Bad producer Sony Pictures Television to agree to a smaller episodic order for next season (reportedly, six to eight episodes instead of the usual 13.) Sony is said to have then approached other outlets, including FX, about picking up future seasons of the show, though insiders say a move was unlikely. In the fourth season of Breaking Bad, Walt (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse (Aaron Paul) have been looking over their shoulders even more than normal after they killed a rival chemist to prevent their own death at the hands of their boss, Gus (Giancarlo Esposito). The season premiered July 17 to 2.6 million viewers. (Additional reporting by Adam Bryant.)
Kimjongilia
For some, the Korean War was a clear example of American imperialism. For others, it was a valiant effort on the part of the UN and the Koreans to quash the spread of communism. For all Koreans, it was a tragedy. The country was not just divided; it was devastated. The death toll was astronomical, and the destruction profound. Many engage in assigning blame for the war according to their political beliefs, but this is a useless exercise. The point is that the human rights situation in North Korea today is catastrophic. KIMJONGILIA is the first film to let North Korean refugees tell their stories in their own words.

Wan fa gui zong yi Shao Lin
THE BEST OF SHAOLIN KUNG FU sounds like a documentary, but its more like a highlight reel of Joseph Kuo films right down to the use of Carter Wong as a villain, the appearance of Shaolin bronze men and an epic series of challenges within Shaolin for the star Cliff Lok to overcome. Lok has always seemed like one of those reliable, yet unremarkable kung fu stars who, like Jimmy Wang Yu, peaked in the early 70s and was ultimately overshadowed by bigger and better talent. But within this film, it becomes clear that all he needed was the proper choreography to shine as bright as any kung fu star. And appropriately enough, the man to do it was his mentor, director and choreographer Chan Siu-pang

Joe Pesci and Shaun Bridges? Annette Bening and Mickey Rourke? Fantasy 'Change-Ups' You want to See
Another body-changing comedy? Sweeeet! You heard right, Hollywood compensated focus on all of the dough individuals 'Freaky Friday' movies introduced in, and it is wishing a bro swap will end up being just like magical in the box office because the classic mother-daughter switch. This week's release, 'The Change-Up,' stars Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds like a settled dad along with a wild youthful bachelor, correspondingly, who awaken one morning to uncover they have switched physiques. Uh oh! Amusing antics are certain to ensue! Olivia Wilde and Leslie Mann complete the cast because the hot co-worker and wifey. Hmm, Mann must enjoy the entire stuck-in-another-body concept. Remember her from '17 Again'? Y'know, the main one where Matthew Perry awakens in the more youthful body? And we are designed to think that Perry was as pretty as Zac Efron sooner or later? Yeah, that certain. My point is the fact that body-changing comedies are clearly quite viable in the box office. Sure, we'll have to hang about until the finish from the weekend to determine what 'The Change-Up' pulls in, however i suspect it will be pretty healthy. In the end, the attempted-and-true premise is amusing also it provides an essential 'grass is definitely greener' message. It's promising to determine the idea moving from family-friendly fare like 'Freaky Friday' and '17 Again.' Hopefully, if 'The Change-Up' does well, we'll see much more slightly risqué assumes the subject. Until that occurs, I have been day-fantasizing about some impossible movie body swaps. Let's suppose probably the most memorable figures in recent movie history all of a sudden awoke in each other peoples physiques? It might never happen (a few of these aren't even in the same decade!) however it sure is fun to consider, is not it? Listed here are my top 5 fantasy switches. 1. Carolyn Burnham (Annette Bening) from 'American Beauty' and Randy the Ram (Mickey Rourke) from 'The Wrestler.' Carolyn is about maintaining looks, just how would she react getting out of bed in certain dump within the Ram's dirty, disheveled body? An amount people think?! Ultimately, though, I believe Carolyn would roll together with her new body and release all her pent-up suburban housewife aggression through some serious assault. The Ram in Carolyn's body, however, would certainly miss some open houses and PTA conferences, however i predict Carolyn's husband Lester would really like the Ram version of his estranged wife (wink, wink). &ampampampampampampltcenter&ampampampampampampgt 2. Magda (Lin Shaye) from 'There's Something About Mary' and Powder (Sean Patrick Flanery) from 'Powder.' After many years of meticulously staying away from the sun's rays, Powder would most likely be pretty surprised to awaken in Magda's leatherlike, sun-worshipping body. Magda, consequently, could be beyond horrified to appear within the mirror and find out a pale albino face looking back at her. Towards the spray tanning bar, pronto! &ampampampampampltcenter&ampampampampampgt 3. Nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher) from 'One Travelled Within the Cuckoo's Nest' and Marge Gunderson (Frances McDormand) from 'Fargo.' Marge wouldn't are a symbol of terrorizing the patients, would she? She'd easily be horrified to awaken inside a body that everybody is afraid of. Picture such a different put the Salem Condition Hospital could be under Marge's rule rather than Ratched's. There certainly would not be any lobotomies! You betcha! Salem's gain could be Brainerd's loss, though -- Ratched would most certainly abuse her forces as police chief if she awoke in Marge's body. I've got a feeling she might prefer as being a cop rather than a nurse, though. &ampampampampltcenter&ampampampampgt 4. Nicky Santoro (Joe Pesci) from 'Casino' and also the Dude (Shaun Bridges) from 'The Large Lebowski. Consider how Nicky would respond to The Dude's Best friend Walter (John Goodman). The fights could be epic! Nicky within the Dude's body would totally win. Heck, Nicky in Nicky's body would win through the sheer pressure of will alone. Everybody in Nicky's world, meanwhile, could be completely tossed off once the greatest spaz they are fully aware all of a sudden mellows out and becomes interested in bowling than picking fights. [WARNING: The clip below features Nicky Santoro. So yeah, you will find some f-tanks.] &ampampampltcenter&ampampampgt 5. Neo (Keanu Reeves) from 'The Matrix' and Milton (Stephen Root) from 'Office Space.' If Milton thought getting gone to live in the basement was bad, just wait 'til he awakens within an alternate reality! Sluggish Milton would most likely struggle to maintain Trinity and Morpheus, even when he'd utilization of Neo's body. Restless Neo would surely hate work. It requires greater than a shiny red-colored staple remover to fulfill him! Plus he'd have to sit in existence being an ugly middle-aged loser.

'Breaking Bad' Eying Two-Season Final Run
RELATED: AMC Leader On 'Breaking Bad' Order, 'Walking Dead' Budget & 'Mad Men' Deal With 11 days left before license fee deal on AMC's drama Breaking Bad is placed to run out, the network and creating studio The new sony Pictures Television are heading in to the homestretch of the discussions for any fifth season from the dark series starring Bryan Cranston. Despite The new sony delivering out feelers with other cable systems and apparently getting interest from Forex, every side feel certain that Breaking Bad will go back to AMC for which is anticipated to become its final chapter. Creator Vince Gilligan had managed to get obvious he really wants to finish the series after Season 5. I have found that AMC comes with an offer up for grabs for any standard 13-episode fifth season but The new sony is searching for more. People near to the matter expect the ultimate deal to become for 13-20 episodes, possibly spread over 2 seasons. Besides pinning lower the precise size an order, a adhering point continues to be who'll shoulder the development cost for Breaking Bad moving forward. In TV, beginning with Season 5, the network dominate 100% of the show's production cost. In the past of original series on fundamental cable, the systems did not know quite how to deal with the tricky Season 4-Season 5 transition financially and tended to cancel shows after four seasons, like Lifetime's Every Day Now. Within the situation of Breaking Bad, I hear AMC is asking The new sony for many participation within the budget, which most lately was around $3.two million a chapter. AMC and Sony's previous license settlement this past year seemed to be extended and difficult. But this time around around, a renewal made an appearance a significantly simpler proposition, because of the series' double-digit rankings growth for the beginning of Season 4, including posting a set high using the season premiere. Furthermore, the auxiliary market, where Breaking Bad have been far less strong than AMC's signature series Mad Males, also offers acquired. Thanks simply to some savvy deal The new sony created using Walmart, DVD sales for Season 3 increased double numbers from Season 2, an uncommon task for any series these states. And after it systems an offer for that show, The new sony needs to also forge a brand new pact with Gilligan whose contract can also be up following this season.
Jennifer Lopez Gives First Post-Split Interview in Vanity Fair
Who says print news is dead? Vanity Fair may be a monthly magazine, but it has the tendency of hitting stories with tabloid-like speed. Proof of that can be found in the September issue, where the magazine's Lisa Robinson gets Jennifer Lopez to dish about a divorce announcement that feels like it happened five minutes ago. In mid-July, J.Lo said that she was splitting with her husband, Marc Anthony, after seven years of marriage. In her first interview since the announcement, she states that she still believes in falling in love, despite everything that's happened. "It's still my biggest dream. I am positive -- determined to move forward with my life, bring up my babies, and do the best job I can as a mother, entertainer, and person. I now look forward to new challenges. I feel strong." The singer also spoke about her feelings toward Marc, saying she "will always respect Marc as a singer and performer ... He will always be in our lives. He will always hold a special place in my heart as the father of my children." Now the only question is, will Anthony get a chance to open up about J.Lo in next month's GQ? The September issue of Vanity Fair hits newsstands tomorrow, August 3. *Image courtesy of AP Photo/Vanity Fair
